Pierre woman sentenced for first degree manslaughter

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley and Hughes County State’s Attorney Jessica LaMie announced February 27 that 39-year-old Miranda Ann Henry of Pierre, aka Crystal Pumpkinseed, has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for pleading guilty to firstdegree manslaughter in the 2022 stabbing death of Christopher Mexican.

Bird flu costs pile up as outbreak enters second year

The ongoing bird flu outbreak has cost the government roughly $661 million and added to consumers’ pain at the grocery store after more than 58 million birds were slaughtered to limit the spread of the virus.

Area residents attend cracker barrel
