The Rough & Tumble has performed in various places in Gregory County over the last several years, and if you haven’t had the good fortune to see them, the Prairie Rose in Herrick is providing that opportunity at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2025.

After breezing past Rapid City Dynamite 20-0, Sturgis 11-2, and Rapid City Dakota Queens 11-0, at the Girls 12U Softball State Tournament held in Rapid City, SD, July 19-20, 2025, Gregory White again faced Sturgis in the championship game, coming up with a 7-4 victory to earn the state title.

Dewey and Kim Ludeman of Fairfax, SD, daughter Kacie and husband Dan Clousing, and nephew Wes Matthews proved themselves as formidable opponents with the right mixture of fun and knowledge to participate in a national game show.

The South Dakota Department of Corrections is providing notification to law enforcement and the public about the pending release of state prison offender Michael Pigney. Pigney, age 62, will be released from prison on July 22, 2025, after serving the entirety of his sentences for possession of a controlled substance and failure to update address as a sex offender from Minnehaha County.

The Sons of the American Legion will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at the Legion Post in Gregory. The meeting will start at 8:00 p.m. and all members and potential members are encouraged to attend.

The Gregory High School classes from 1960-69 won the pool challenge at the All-School reunion on Thursday, July 3. Classes were challenged by the decade at the All-School Reunion to compete with each other to generate the most donations for a new pool for Gregory.

It is no secret that we love this rodeo famously called the Stampede in Burke, SD. When you love what you do, well, it makes for fun. What great fun we have had with all of you over the past 34 years at the legendary Burke Stampede Rodeo. In this, our 35th year, we are makin’ history. We have retired our old bucking chutes. They served us well. They represent 34 years of Stampede memories and Stampede fun. Recognizing that it was time to look toward the next 35 years of Stampede fun, our committee commissioned Macksteel out of Watertown, SD to build 8 brand new buckin’ chutes. These chutes are bigger, safer, and just plain “Stampede fancy”. They complete phase 1 of our big dreams for the Burke Stampede Rodeo Arena.

Cars in the Park car show was held on July 4, 2025, in the Gregory City Park. Winners were chosen in 12 categories.
