FFA celebrates National Ag Safety Week

This past week, September 2226, 2025, was National Agriculture Safety Week, so to help promote safety, the Gregory County FFA chapter invited high school students to drive their farm equipment to school for the day on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

South Dakota opens free application period on October 1

Beginning Wednesday, October 1, 2025, students can apply for admission to all ten of South Dakota’s public higher-education institutions at no cost during the annual Free Application Period. Sponsored by the South Dakota Board of Regents and the South Dakota Board of Technical Education, this initiative is designed to remove barriers to higher education and encourage more students to explore opportunities across the state’s public higher education system.

Five smoke shop owners indicted for possession, distribution of illegal substances

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announces five smoke shop owners statewide have been indicted after a law enforcement sting uncovered the sale of illegal products in their businesses. The operation, conducted by the Attorney General’s Office and the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), in partnership with local law enforcement agencies, targeted shops suspected of selling products that violated state and federal law.

Gregory Co. Handy Helpers 4-H serve the community

Handy Helpers 4-H club met at the Burke City Park on Sunday, September 28, 2025, for a community service project. SDSU Extension impact states, “We recognize that the youth of today are our future leaders and what they learn and experience in 4-H will help them develop into contributing citizens who will give back to their communities in the future.”

Marching Gorillas represent Gregory in Platte

On Friday, September, 26, 2025, the Marching Gorillas traveled to Platte, SD, to march in the Missouri Valley Marching Competition. Gregory brought home 2nd place in their class and top flag corps. Class AA school Pierre Riggs High School took home the 1st place trophy in the class.

Digging deep for a cause: Spikers partner with Gregory County Laps of Love

The Lady Spikers and Gregory County Laps of Love will turn the court pink, on October 16, 2025 for a powerful cause, hosting a fundraiser in support of breast cancer awareness. A silent auction will be organized by Gregory County Laps of Love with proceeds benefiting cancer patients in Gregory County.
