Late score costs Gregory County Legion in loss to Platte/Geddes

Friday evening’s game against Platte/Geddes in the American Legion regional baseball tournament was a heartbreaker for Gregory County Legion, as they lost the lead late in an 8-7 defeat. The game was tied at seven with Platte/Geddes batting in the top of the seventh when Landon Schulte doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Pierce Stukel qualifies in three events for state finals to be held in Ft. Pierre on August 13-15

The South Dakota State Champion flag racer in 2020, Pierce Stukel is well on his way to even bigger and better things in 2021. Competing in the Clark Rodeo over the weekend, he won breakaway, got second in goat tying, and ended up as reserve all around on Saturday, July 24. On Sunday he won goat tying, got second in breakaway, and won flag racing, giving him the all-around. He has already qualified in all three of his events this year for the state finals, which will be held in Ft. Pierre August 13-15.

4-Her’s explore nature at Burke Lake

Gregory County 4-H held a nature workshop at Burke Lake, where the youth went on a hike and got to learn about plants, animals and about the history of Burke Lake. This workshop was held on Monday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For this workshop, the youth were able to lead the workshop and explore nature, ask questions, and learn from seeing, touching, and even tasting. They found some mulberries, and everyone got to try some.

Mix up mash up workshop

Gregory County 4-H held a Mix Up Mash Up workshop for cloverbuds on Tuesday, July 20th at the Burke Civic Center from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The youth painted a picture of the beach, played bug bingo, turned socks into fish, and played sharks and minnows in the gym. They had a busy workshop and were all tuckered out by the end.

Cloverbuds attend zoo animals workshop

A zoo animals workshop for cloverbuds was held by Gregory County 4-H at the Burke Civic Center on Thursday, July 22nd from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The youth watched a virtual zoo tour and learned about various animals, performed veterinarian checkups on stuffed animals, played some fun games, and made their own zoo animals out of paper bags.
