Gregory Times-Advocate knows how important reading is, and is excited to awaken the magic of reading for Gregory students by providing third through fifth graders at Gregory School District with monthly copies of Kid Scoop News, a print newspaper made specifically for kids, through a partnership with the Nebraska Press Association Foundation.

Eight students head to state for oral interp

Area vocalists participate in all-state chorus

Dozens of vocalists and musicians participated in the South Dakota High School Activities Association’s 69th annual South Dakota all-state chorus and orchestra performance on Oct. 30 at Summit Arena at The Monument complex.
FFA does well in first ever competition

The Gregory County FFA chapter competed in their first leadership development event (LDE) Monday, November 15, and came home with 4th place in Ag broadcasting – Kaydence Klein, 4th place in extemporaneous speaking – Corbin Rolf, 4th place in Ag sales team, and 2nd place in employment skills – Taylor Even. Kaydence and Corbin will be alternates for state, while Taylor will have the opportunity to attend state in December. Eleven members from the Gregory County chapter attended.
Management changes underway at Silver Threads Assisted Living

Donna Steppat, long-time administrator at Silver Threads, announced on Friday, November 5, 2021, that management changes are underway at Silver Threads. Jim and Dulce Frank, formerly of Burke, SD, will be assuming management of the facility upon returning to the area.

The Gregory Spikers faced a tough challenge on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, falling in three sets to the Winner Lady Warriors. “This was a difficult loss, but the girls showed glimpses of what they’re capable of when they play together with energy and focus,” Head Coach Lauren Braun said.

A symbol of freedom

Recently, I got to visit one of the greatest symbols of freedom in the world: Mount Rushmore. I’ve been there many times, but I will never cease to be amazed by the power and splendor of that monument. We were there for a naturalization ceremony, which made that symbol of freedom even more powerful.
