Burke Bombers 6 Wessington Springs Owls 5 The Burke Bombers defeated the Wessington Springs Owls 6-5 on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in the first round of the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association’s District 3 tournament in Colome. The Bombers were down 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Aaron Sundquist homered to center field, scoring two runs.

After big first win, Gregory Legion team comes up short in region tournament

Gregory 19 - Chamberlain 4 Gregory Legion Post 6 won big over Chamberlain, 19-4, in the first round of the Region 7 Legion Baseball Tournament, held in Gregory, July 22-24, 2025. Gregory got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run, another error scored two runs, Lincoln Juracek drew a walk, scoring one run, Jackson Bolander singled, scoring two runs, and yet another error scored one run.

Jury finds Winner man guilty of sex trafficking of children and production of child pornography

U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of South Dakota United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced July 22, 2025, that Richard Alan Kucera, age 67, of Winner, South Dakota, was found guilty of two counts of Sex Trafficking of a Child and two counts of Production of Child Pornography following a four-day federal jury trial in Pierre, South Dakota. The verdict was returned on July 18, 2025.

Public notice of high risk offender release

The South Dakota Department of Corrections is providing notification to law enforcement and the public about the pending release of state prison offender Michael Pigney. Pigney, age 62, will be released from prison on July 22, 2025, after serving the entirety of his sentences for possession of a controlled substance and failure to update address as a sex offender from Minnehaha County.
