A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The work of the cowboy on the yearly roundups west of the Missouri River was hard and dangerous. A day in the saddle could be long, hard, and sometimes fatal. Immense distance from medical care and slow transportation just added to the hazards they faced on the open range. In the summertime, the work was often hot, dusty, and bonebreaking; in the wintertime, it was cold, lonely, and demanding.

Betty Jo Hoffman is Gregory County’s new director of equalization/planning and zoning director. After moving to the area in April, she officially started her new job on May 2.

Boys golf team qualifies for state tournament

The Gregory boys golf team placed second at the regional tournament in Mitchell on Tuesday, May 24, punching the ticket for the team to compete in the state tournament. Gregory’s arch rival, Ethan, whom they bested in the pre-regional tournament, beat the boys by only two points to claim first.

The IOOF’s memorial

The IOOF’s memorial to fallen warriors is displayed at the IOOF Cemetery in Gregory. The Dallas Legion hosted a program Monday morning, and services were scheduled to be held at several local cemeteries in remembrance of those who gave their life for their country.
