Four generations celebrate Shirley Beck on Mother’s Day

Shirley Beck was 19 when she became a mother. She’d gotten married when she was 18, and Diane was the first child to arrive, followed by Frank 15 months later, Dave five years after that, Janet two years after Dave, and Ken after another two years. A longer gap followed Ken, before Patricia, Brad, and Bev, born close together, and Doug brought an end to Shirley’s childbearing. No twins. Possibly one miscarriage. All nine were born in the hospital. She adamantly denies that she had any favorites, but her children laugh at that claim.

Sioux Falls VA Healthcare leader reassigned amid complaints

The director of the Sioux Falls VA Healthcare System has been reassigned following a multitude of complaints about mismanagement. The VA’s Midwest region director Robert McDivitt said Lisa Simoneau will stay with the Veterans Affairs Department and serve at regional headquarters in the Twin Cities.

Middle school golf teams compete in Tyndall

The middle school boys and girls golf teams traveled to Tyndall for the Avon-Scotland meet on Tuesday, April 19. AJ Lutt was the top finisher for the boys, shooting a 58 on nine holes to tie for eleventh place.

Stress less this spring

Spring is a wonderful time of year when we emerge from our sleepy winter homes and prepare for a summer of activity and adventure. This time of year can also bring stress as family and school activities reach a fever pitch and businesses prepare for busier days.
