A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The Enabling Act which created the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Washington in 1889 accepted the Sioux Falls constitution of 1885 which had been approved by the Dakota voters. Congress required some minor changes and that the revised document be submitted to the vote of the people.

SD Cattlemen’s Association Opposes HB 1096 - here’s why

Last week HB 1096 was introduced into the South Dakota legislature. Essentially, this bill would limit the authority of the Animal Industry Board to establish the type of identification methods required in South Dakota, and it would not allow the use of any state funds to enforce a mandatory electronic ear tag regulation if USDA requires it in the future. If no state funds are used, this would lead to regulation of our local producers shifting from state Animal Industry Board to the federal government. Is that really the direction that we as beef producers want to go or the message that we want to send to consumers?

Mayor Scott Anshutz reflects on state of the city for 2021

2021 was a busy year, according to Mayor Scott Anshutz in his state of the city account. Construction of new houses and businesses, as well as lot sales in the Grandview Addition, were a couple indicators of progress.
