This Thursday, November 11, is Veterans Day, originally designated to commemorate the end of fighting in World War I with an armistice agreement reached at 11:00 a.m., November 11, 1918. World War I had taken a greater toll of human life than any previous conflict, leaving 8.5 million soldiers dead from battlefield injuries or disease.
