Funeral services for Alvin Konop were held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Kotrba Smith Funeral Home in Gregory, SD. Casket bearers were RJ Simonson, Kenneth Horse Looking, Brad Kerner, Wade Noble, Delane Arcoren, and Konor Arcoren. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery in Gregory, SD, with military honors conferred by the Gregory American Legion and the National Honors Team. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Alvin Darrell Konop was born January 1, 1933, to John and Mary (Preslicka) Konop at home north of Dixon, SD. Alvin attended Washington Country School with his siblings. Darrell served his country during the Korean War from April 1953 to March 1955. He received an honorable discharge and was proud of his service.
Darrell owned and operated his own maintainer and worked for several of the area townships around Dixon and Iona. He and his family lived in the Wood and Winner area.
Alvin passed away on May 25, 2023, at Winner Regional Long Term Healthcare Center in Winner, SD, at the age of 90 years.
He is survived by four sons: Leroy Konop, Allen Konop, Aaron Konop, and Eric Konop; three daughters: Sheila Konop, Candace (Rory) Simonson, and April Konop; sister Bonnie Fott; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary; former wife Silvia; four brothers: Arnold, Myron, George, and Stanley; and seven sisters: Helen Carico, Sylvia Novotny, Delores Stas, Ollie Maas, Mildred Noble, Audrey Kerner, and Lillian King.
