Dean Beryl McIntyre was born in Portland, OR, on July 17, 1945, to Harry and Irene McIntyre, and grew up on a farm two miles outside of Gregory, SD. He attended Gregory High School, graduating in 1963, and then furthered his education by attending community college where he received certification as a car mechanic.

Between 1968-1969, after volunteering for the draft, Dean served the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam where he fought during the Tet Offensive. He served with honor and courage, and upon his return home, was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

On May 19, 1973, in the Interdenominational Chapel at the University of South Dakota, Dean married Marian Jane McCance (McIntyre) and the couple had three daughters: Theresa, Lorna, and Melissa. Dean worked for the Social Security Department as his career.

He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed all the outdoors had to offer with his daughters and grandchildren: camping, fishing, gardening, trips to Yellowstone, etc. Family was paramount to Dean, and he whole-heartedly supported his wife, daughters, and grandchildren with kindness, love, generosity, wisdom, humor, and a humble soul. Dean was also very social and enjoyed meeting and talking to new people. His vast knowledge of history could keep you intrigued for hours, and silly jokes along with his kind, inviting smile could put anyone at ease. Dean always looked for the bright side in all aspects of life.

Dean Beryl McIntyre, 76 years old, passed away in his home on January 11, 2022, after a courageous battle with stage 4 cancer.

Dean was preceded in death by his father, Harry McIntyre, mother, Irene McIntyre, and younger brother, Larry McIntyre.

He is survived by his wife, Jane McIntyre of Butte, MT; daughter Theresa McIntyre of Erie, CO, and her five children: Sarah, Christian (CJ), Daniel, Faith, and Rayne; daughter Lorna McIntyre of Helena, MT; and daughter Melissa McIntyre of Bozeman, MT.
