Gerald Charging Hawk

Funeral services for Gerald Charging Hawk were held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Bonesteel City Hall in Bonesteel, SD, with Pastor Ken James officiating. Urn bearers were Bryan Wright, Jr. and Brandon Wright. Honorary casket bearers were all of his family and friends. Interment was in the Ponca Creek UCC Cemetery in St. Charles, SD. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Gerald Rames Charging Hawk was born July 12, 1946, at Burke, SD, to Bernard and Sylvia (Rainwater) Charging Hawk. Gerald grew up around the Bonesteel/St. Charles area. He attended and graduated Bonesteel-Fairfax High School. Gerald was very athletic and was known for being an amazing basketball player. He then met Wanda LaPointe. They got married and together had five sons: Myron, Todd, Larry, Jerald Jr., and Donovan.

Gerald lived most of his life in Sioux Falls, SD with his niece Jerri and her husband Bryan Wright and their kids Rita, Rachele, Rhonda, Bryan Jr., Brandon, and Brady. He then moved to Norfolk, NE. Gerald enjoyed working and worked construction the majority of his life. He also enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren. Gerald later moved to Spencer, NE, in 2022 where he spent the remaining days of his life.

He died July 4, 2023, at the Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, NE, at the age of 76 years.

Gerald is survived by his sons Todd, Larry, Jerald Jr., and Donovan Charging Hawk; his widowed nephew Bryan Wright; grandchildren: Chantal, Kierstin, Tawny Charging Hawk, Ingrid, Isiah, Michael, McKenzie Charging Hawk, Rachele, Rhonda, Bryan Jr., Brandon, and Brady Wright; and many great-grandchildren.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Sylvia, son Myron Charging Hawk, niece Jerri Wright, granddaughter Rita Wright, and great-grandson Karter Rames Cournoyer.
