A mass of Christian burial for James Sattler was held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Butte, NE, with Father Ross Berkhalter officiating. David and Carmen Schmitz were lector and Eucharistic minister. Music was provided by Pat Thiry, organist. Casket bearers were Heidi Melton, Ryon Vogt, Holly Drueke, Alexis Erbst, Dasirae Sieh, Mitchael Sieh, Broderick Sieh, Catlin Bartlett, Caley Cahoy, Carlie Cahoy, Samantha Sattler, Ethan Sattler, Cameron Sattler, Elizabeth Sattler, Thomas Sattler, and Amberlyn Sattler. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Naper, NE. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Edward Sattler was born on October 11, 1942, and grew up on the family farm west of Naper, NE. Jim was one of five children born to Constantine and Emma (Kautz) Sattler.

He graduated from Naper High School in 1960 and earned a degree in agronomy from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, graduating in 1964. He returned to Naper and married Mabel Riesselman on July 11, 1964. They purchased the Sattler homestead from his parents, becoming the third generation to own and work their ranch.

They had five children who were raised on the farm and grew up knowing the value of hard work, fun, and a loving family.

In 2004, they received the Nebraska Pioneer of Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation award, recognizing the Sattler family ownership of over 100 years. In 2011, they retired to Naper and sold the Sattler Family Ranch to Bryon and Sharon (Sattler) Vogt, who became the fourth generation owners.

Jim served the community of Naper and Boyd County as a member of the Naper Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and Naper School Board, and most recently helping the Naper Historical Society at the Museums and sending out the Naper Paper.

Jim passed away April 11, 2023 at the Butte Healthcare Center. He is survived by his wife Mabel; children Sharon (Bryon) Vogt of Naper, NE, Shellie (Michael) Sieh of Stanton, NE, Sheryl (Monte) Cahoy of Norfolk NE, Chris (Jen) Sattler of Stuart, NE, and Charles (Amy) Sattler of Hornick, IA; grandchildren: Heidi (Shelby) Melton, Ryon (Emma) Vogt, Holly (Willie) Drueke, Alexis (Tate) Erbst, Dasirae Sieh, Mitchael Sieh, Broderick Sieh, Caitlin (Kyle) Bartlett, Caley Cahoy, Carlie Cahoy, Samantha Sattler, Ethan Sattler, Cameron Sattler, Elizabeth Sattler, Thomas Sattler, and Amberlyn Sattler; 13 great-grandchildren; his sister Nathalie Taranto, CT; sisters-in-law Sue Sattler, MN, and Cindy Sattler, MN; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Con and Emma Sattler; brothers Connie and Elmer Sattler; and an infant sister Lavina.
