A celebration of life service for Janice E. Kulm, age 74, of Spencer, NE, was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spencer, NE. Pastor Glen Stahlecker officiated.
Music was provided by Marlo Johnson, organist. Tara Sinclair McAllister and Marilee Janousek were in charge of registration. Flower attendants were Karli McCance, Pam Blume, Amy Harrington and Becky Koch.
Burial was held Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Cemetery, Wessington Springs, SD. Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk, NE, was in charge of the arrangements.
Janice Eileen (Boyd) Kulm was born November 4, 1946, to Vergil and Edith (Youngs) Boyd in Crookston, MN.
Following Janice’s graduation from Wessington Springs High School, she worked as a certified nursing assistant in Yankton, SD. Shortly thereafter, Jan attended Ben Your Hairdresser School of Beauty in Lincoln, NE, and was a hairdresser for more than 25 years, primarily in Lincoln and Butte, NE.
On August 22, 1965, Janice married Ralph Kulm. They lived in Lincoln and Spencer, NE during their married life. To this union, three children were born: Ann (1966), Tracy (1968) and Shelley (1973). The marriage ended in 1998.
A favorite part of her life included babysitting children - all children, but especially those that were infants through kindergarten. She used another facet of her caring nature to work at the Butte Nursing Home for a few years.
Jan liked to make craft projects such as candles and dolls and through the years enjoyed the challenge of finding treasures at garage sales. She loved music and especially enjoyed dancing. Janice passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Faith Regional

Jan is survived by her children Ann (Wes) Schwader of Burke, SD; Tracy (Jason) Anderson of Lincoln, NE; Shelley (Mike) Naber of Gretna, NE; her five grandchildren Dakota Votaw, Sierra Votaw, Jade Naber, Kyle Naber, and Austin Anderson; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her special friend Larry Lane of Bassett, NE.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Verle Boyd; sister Carol Pedersen; sister-in-law Stella Boyd; sister-in-law Rosemary Boyd; brother-in-law Elmer Pedersen, and special friend Leland Hiatt.
