Funeral services for Herbert Neumiller were held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Naper, NE, with Emmett Kotrba officiating.
Music was provided by the congregation, and accompanied by Ann Anderson, organist. Kavan Scribner and Blake Buhlke were in charge of registration.
Casket bearers were Tannor Neumiller, Tyler Juilfs, Josiah Anderson, Chris Neumiller, Jerry Neumiller and Justin Buhlke. Honorary casket bearers were Dakotah Neumiller, Addalynn Neumiller, Brooklyn Neumiller, Logan Jackson, Landon Jackson, Nevaeh Jackson, Braxton Neumiller, Carter Jackson, Dylan Anderson, Drake Anderson, Kinley Juilfs, Ky Juilfs, Madison Neumiller, Quentin Buhlke, and Aiden Neumiller.
Interment was in the Knollcrest Cemetery in Naper, NE. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lester Herbert Neumiller was born at home on July 6, 1929 above Odenbach Bay near Bonesteel, SD, to Chris and Lydia (Kulm) Neumiller. He was the fourth of seven children.
The Neumiller family moved from the farm near Bonesteel, SD, to a farm near Gross, NE, when Lester was in elementary school. In 1942, they moved to a farm southwest of Naper, NE, where he graduated from Naper High School in 1948. He worked on various farms for different people in the Naper area.
Lester married Arlene Nicolaus on January 25, 1952. They farmed and ranched in the Naper area until 1982 when Lester became a rural mail carrier in Fullerton, NE.
He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Naper, NE, and the First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton, NE.
Lester enjoyed visiting with people, gardening, reading, and working with animals. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He loved learning about people, places and new ways to farm or build things. During his life, he helped build two churches, several houses, and various buildings and renovations.
Over his lifetime, he belonged to the Naper Lions Club, Nebraska Rural Carriers, District III Rural Carriers and Five County Rural Carriers; served on the church board, the Boyd County 4-H council, the local Co-op board, and the Kulm Family Association board of directors; and was a 4-H leader.
Lester Neumiller passed away October 17, 2021, at Butte Senior Living, Butte, NE.
He is survived by one brother, Paul Neumiller of Bonesteel, SD; one sister, Louise Zink of Butte, NE; one daughter, Marcia Hogan and husband Michael of Hastings, NE; granddaughters Krystle (Josiah) Anderson of Lincoln, NE, Kelly (Tyler) Juilfs of Nebraska City, NE, and Megan (Justin Buhlke) Neumiller of Hastings, NE; one son, Brent Neumiller of Naper, NE; two grandsons: Chris Neumiller and fiancé Amanda Hansen of Naper, NE, and Jerry Neumiller of Naper, NE; 18 great-grandchildren; and a special person in his later years Gaynell Keller and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Arlene, and siblings: sister Edna Nelson and husband Findrew Nelson; sister Esther Fuhrer and husband Lyle Fuhrer; brother Herman Neumiller and wife Betty Neumiller; brother Arthur Neumiller; and brother-in-law Wayne Zink.
