Marlene Beck

A prayer service for Marlene Beck, was held on Tuesday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. with Robert Flying Hawk officiating.

Music was provided by Clausen Funeral Home and Robert Flying Hawk.

Casket bearers were Anthony Ulrich, Jacob Miller, Saigon Ulrich, Little Rude Ulrich, Rainah Ulrich, Paul Ulrich Miranda Ulrich and Julia Ulrich. Honorary casket bearers were all of her Ihanktowan Tiospaye.

Interment was in the Herrick Cemetery in Herrick, SD. Clausen Funeral Home of Burke, SD, was in charge of arrangements.

Marlene Mavis Beck was born April 11, 1952, at Wagner, SD, to Ulysses and Sybil (Brown Bear) Iron Hawk.

Marlene grew up in Marty, SD. She attended Marty Indian School. She married Leonard Paul Ulrich and they had three sons: Rudy, Herman, and Edward. She later married Eugene Beck.

Marlene enjoyed being outside, watching her boys and grandchildren fish. She enjoyed visiting on the phone and made sure to call every morning to make sure you were up. She enjoyed going for car rides with her granddaughters to go shopping or rummaging. Her door was always open to anyone who needed help. She was always doing house work to maintain a clean home. She always had a story to tell, and her favorite topic was her family.

She died December 16, 2021, at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD, at the age of 69 years.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents Ulysses and Sybil Iron Hawk; her brothers Vernell, Nathan, Larry, Faron, and Harold; her sisters Rolla Faye Iron Hawk, Edith Mallory and her twin Eileen, Sharon (the twin of Faron), Marcella Cournoyer (Iron Hawk) and her granddaughter Ashley Ulrich.
