Martin “Marty” Joe Rezac, was born January 21, 1956, to Martin “Joe” and Leila (Hysell) Rezac in Winner, SD. He joined a sister Vicki, and was followed by Brian, Randy, Kevin, Lisa, and Clinton to complete the family.

Marty’s early childhood and schooling was in the surrounding towns and Buffalo, WY. His father was a heavy equipment mechanic/welder and worked in road construction. The family moved to Golden, CO, in 1966, where his father worked for Coors Brewery. Later, the family moved to Lakewood, CO. Both cities are suburbs of Denver, CO.

At the age of 18, Marty joined the US Army on May 30, 1974, and was stationed at Fort Stewart, GA, in the motor body repair section. Marty got his GED while in the military. He was honorably discharged on May 27, 1977. He returned to Lakewood, CO, and continued working on older cars.

Marty loved being a mechanic, body repairman, and welder, though he didn’t like working on computerized cars. In the early 1980s, he and a friend restored and painted a 1968 Dodge Super Bee with many coats of different colored paints. From one angle, it was dark red, and from another angle, it was streaked black. His brother named it “Dandy Brandy Wine.”

Marty married Mary Hurd in 1988, and gained a stepson Jeremy. A daughter Amber Rae, and son Dalton Lee, joined the family. They lived and worked in the Denver area until moving to Dallas, SD, in the late 1990s. His father had moved there shortly before. His family moved back to the Denver area after a few years but Marty stayed in South Dakota. He liked raising a garden and enjoyed visits with family and friends.

Marty passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at his residence in Gregory, SD, at the age of 66 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Brian, Kevin, and Clinton; sister Vicki and her son Christopher Rezac; and by members of the Orville and Helen Hysell families and the Martin Peter and Anna Rezac families.

He is survived by his daughter Amber; son Dalton; brother Randy; and sister Lisa, all of the Denver area; uncle Tom Hysell; aunt Evelyn Rezac; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

No services are planned at this time. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
