Funeral services for Marvin Frasch were held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfax, SD, with Pastor Bill Heermann officiating.

Music was provided by Marvin’s granddaughters, vocalists, accompanied by Judy Gies, organist. Marilee Janousek and Tracy Pfaff were in charge of registration.

Casket bearers were Jason Frasch, Brad Pistulka, Dustin Warnke, Nathan Boes, Aiden Frasch, and Parker Frasch. Honorary casket bearers were all of Marvin’s ball-playing friends, fellow card players, and friends and neighbors.

Interment was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfax, SD. Clausen Funeral Home of Burke, SD, was in charge of arrangements.

Marvin Lee Frasch was born July 2, 1935, at his grandparents home east of Fairfax, SD, to Ted and Dorothy (Krueger) Frasch, the first of eight children.

Marvin attended rural schools and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1953. That same year, he started working on the Fort Randall Dam and continued working construction in Idaho, Mobridge, and Pierre. He joined the Army National Guard in 1957 and continued his reserves while in Pierre.

He met his future wife, JoAnn Scherer, an they were married September 23, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfax, SD, by Pastor Thomas Johnson. To this union, five children were born: Leann, Connie, Carla, Tammy, and Jason.

In 1963, they moved back to Fairfax to help his father farm and continued farming until Marvin’s health declined in 2016.

Marvin loved to play ball, playing on teams in Pierre, Bonesteel, and with “Buzzard” Bill Beckers in Burke. He also coached girls softball with Walter Weidrick, winning many tournaments.

He loved his family, helping people in need, playing cards, fishing, hunting, and, of course, farming.

Marvin is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of 62 years; children: Leann (Bruce) Pistulka and their children Jessica (Kory) Knutson - sons Briggs and Brayden, Brad (Stef) - children Brylie, Breckynn, and Ben, Tracy (Trent) Vogt - children Peyton, Harper, and Drew, Taylor (Steven) Koupal - children Carter and Hayes, Connie (Todd) Warnke - children Leslie Leffers, Jenna (Bradey) Klarenbeek - child Micah; Dustin (Lacey) - children Blake, Emmy, and Dylan; Carla (Dave) Thue - children Haley (Josh) Janousek - children Addilyn, Brynlee, Cashton, Riverly, Rhettson, and Jada Thue; Tammy (Bob) Boes - children Nathan (Courtney), Sarah (Blake) Wirtjes - daughter Wrenley, and Sydney Boes; Jason (Sara) Frasch - children Aiden, Parker and Finley; his brothers: Eugene (Roberta) Frasch of Liberty Lake, WA, Dwayne (Bobbi) Frasch of Windsor, CO; sisters: Beverley (Louie) Kehn of St. Charles, SD, Jane (Clyde) Vogt of Naper, NE; brother-in-law Don Cahoy of Norfolk, NE; sister-inlaw Jacque (Dan) Bradley of Sioux City, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and his uncle, Ivan Krueger of Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sisters Elaine (Fred) Brown and Sandra Cahoy, brother Dennis, brothers-in-law Ward and Wayne Scherer, and in-laws, John and Vivian Scherer.
