Funeral services for Melvin Klein were held on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke, SD, with Jesse Pritchard officiating.

Casket bearers were Shane Forney, Travis Forney, Ryan Korth, Joe Pritchard, Jesse Pritchard, Justin Pritchard, and Jake Burke. Honorary casket bearers were Vernon Klein, Delbert Klein, Dennis Klein, and Milo Klein, Jr.

Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery in Burke, SD. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Klein was born May 28, 1927, on the family farm east of Burke, SD, to Simon and Emma (Hildebrand) Klein.

Melvin was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Butte Valley School. He entered the US Army during the Korean War in 1951. His basic training was at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and he spent 17 months in England, where he served until 1953.

He was united in marriage to Mayme Blank on September 20, 1953, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison, NE. Mel and Mayme lived and farmed for many years near Madison. Melvin also operated his manufacturing business for 17 years, building and designing farm products. He had passion for playing the accordion and piano for many anniversarys and birthday parties. They later made their in Norfolk, NE. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5763 and the American Legion in Madison, NE.

He died January 7, 2022, at the Arbor Care Nursing Home in Fullerton, NE, at the age of 94 years.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brothers Rudy (Mildred) and Reuben (Vivian), and an infant brother.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mayme; children: Lana Forney of Severance, CO,; Barb (Pat) Korth of Platte Center, NE, and Brenda Burke of Stromsburg, NE; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; his brother Milo (Kathy) Klein of Burke, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
