Funeral services for Norman Vomacka were held on Monday, December 27, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Bible Church in Bonesteel, SD.
Norm was born on April 16, 1959, to Ernie and Alice Vomacka in Burke, SD.
He was raised in Gregory, SD, where he graduated in 1978. While growing up, he spent as much time as possible working in his father’s welding shop. It was there he developed his passion for welding. He was a master welder.
In 1981, Norm married Wynette Hein. Together they shared two sons. Skylur was born in 1982 and Chance came along in 1987. He enjoyed teaching his sons about all of the hobbies he loved: hunting, fishing, horses, welding, and carpentry.
Norm was proficient in any occupation he pursued. He began working at a young age at his father’s welding business. In 1982, he went to a welding shop down the road in St. Charles, SD, and in 1983, took the family to Selle Ranch in Butte, NE. The next year, Norm headed to Brookings, SD, where he worked at Twin City Fan for eight years. He then worked at Sutton Ranch and Duralite before moving back to Gregory in 1994. When Norm left the family business, he worked at Roy’s Honda Shop, Combs Carpentry, and Assman Implement. In 2006, Norm headed to the Sandhills of Nebraska.
In 2014, Norm’s friends created a profile for him on Farmers Only. He saw a gal from Colorado and after reading about her, sent her a message. Kristi moved to be with Norm in 2015, and they were married on December 19, 2016 in Alliance, NE.
Not only did Norm gain a wife, but also two daughters, Amber and Autumn.
When the Nebraska floods of 2019 occurred, Norm and Kristi were living at Rocking J Ranch near Whitman, NE. Flood waters took over their home and they were forced to leave. A new adventure at Dam Ranch in Valentine, NE, was where Norm worked until 2021. At this point, Norm decided to retire from ranching. He finished his working career at Divine Concrete in Bonesteel, SD. He was back doing what he loved: welding and fabricating.
Norm could weld and fabricate anything that was needed. He was a mechanic and enjoyed working on vehicles.
Norm enjoyed hunting and guns. One of his last weekends was spent with his sons and grandsons on the opening day of deer season.
Together they enjoyed being with their seven grandchildren. Norm’s infectious smile shone so bright when he was with them.
Norm is survived by wife Kristi; sons: Skylur (Tracy) Vomacka, Herrick, SD, and Chance, Rapid City, SD; daughters: Amber (Rowdy) Sides, Burns, WY, and Autumn (Matt) Hall, Bonesteel, SD, seven grandchildren: Justin, Wyatt, and Lily Vomacka, Waylon and Autry Sides, Ellie and Ruth Hall, and sister, Nola Osborne.
He is preceded in death by father Ernie Vomacka, mother Alice Vomacka, and brother Ray Vomacka.
