A memorial service for Patrick Bull Bear was held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home in Gregory, SD with Pastors Cindy Lester and Harold Marshall officiating. Richard Broken Nose gave the traditional Lakota service.

Music was provided by Harold Marshall, Melissa Marshall-Zephier and Lorenzo Stars.

Honorary urn bearers were Mitchell Reid Bull Bear, Nathaniel Grant Bull Bear, Michael Peder Bull Bear, Nate Janis, Vincent Janis and Lukas Marshall. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pat was the second eldest son born to Adolph Royal Bull Bear of Kiyaksa and Lavera Pearl (Marshall) Bull Bear in Rosebud, SD, on June 23, 1960. He died at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls on May 29, 2021.

Pat was an active child and youth. He enjoyed playing football, basketball, and softball. Pat attended elementary and middle school in Gregory, SD. He graduated from Marty Indian School in 1978. After high school he attended Job Corps in Box Elder, SD.

Pat spent many years of his adult life in Colorado Springs, CO, and Cheyenne, WY, working with his brother Ted and nephew Tim on various construction jobs. In his adult life he was active in community sports and enjoyed playing guitar and singing. Pat and Ted also lived for a short period of time in Little Wound, SD, living with his dad Adolph Bull Bear. In the mid 80s he played in a band in local venues in and around Yankton, SD.

After a serious back and neck injury he came back to Gregory, SD, to help take care of his mother Lavera in her later years.

He is survived by his mother Lavera Bull Bear of Gregory, SD, his brother Charles (Marla) Bull Bear of Milks Camp, SD, his eldest sister Delores Marshall of Mission, SD, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father Adolph Bull Bear, brother Ted Bull Bear, his youngest sister Carol Bull Bear (Okeson), brother Royal Bull Bear, and sister Marveleen Bull Bear.
