He enlisted in the Army on July 25, 1969, and was honorably discharged on April 23, 1971. Rodney moved to the Dixon/Gregory area and worked in Herrick, later meeting Gladys Eagle Star in July of 1980. He worked on a farm in Colome and worked for Ed Haines in Dixon, Dallas and Gregory. Rodney and Gladys took care of Angela Eagle Feather and their grandson Christopher “Cee” Gunhammer until Gladys passed away in 2006. Rodney stayed in the area and he continued being a part of Tyra and her children’s lives. He took his grandson Syier under his wing and babied him as he was born on Rodney’s birthday.

Rodney lived with Everly “Dean” Lunderman off and on for 15 years after Gladys passed. He became involved in a relationship with Brenda and raised her daughter Ashley as his own and continued to address her as his daughter after they went their separate ways.

Rodney loved all of his nieces and nephews along with all of their children.
