Funeral services for Wanyce Hein were held on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Kotrba- Smith Funeral Home in Gregory, SD, with Pastor Russ Grim officiating. Velda Benson was in charge of registration, and Wynnette Williams presented the eulogy. Casket bearers were Jim Royer, Ray Royer, Kyle Royer, Marvin Royer, Rich Wetzler, and Cory Wetzler. Honorary casket bearer was Jeff Royer. Interment was at the Herrick Cemetery in Herrick, SD. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wanyce LaVonne (Royer) Hein was born June 2, 1940, to Alma (Halgesen) and Lloyd Royer in Philip, SD. She was raised with six brothers - Richard, Bud, Raymond, Babe, Merle, and Gary. Wanyce lived on the family farm until her dad passed away, and then they moved into Philip, SD.

Wanyce met Walter Lee Hein in Philip at the cafe where she was working. They were married on June 2, 1958, in Philip, SD. She followed Walter without hesitation to Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Kansas. They eventually bought a farm in St. Charles, SD, and raised their three children to adulthood. After selling the farm in 1988, they moved to Black Hawk, SD.

Wanyce was involved in 4-H as a leader and enjoyed and made a business out of woodworking and wood burning. She sold her crafts and attended craft shows all over South Dakota and Nebraska. She loved sitting at the kitchen table and making to-do lists for Walter and the kids. Wanyce loved drawing up house plans and free sketching all her patterns for her woodburning. She enjoyed going down to the Herrick Legion and playing cards and was an active member in the Women’s Auxiliary.

She passed away August 21, 2023, in Burke, SD. Wanyce is survived by her three children: Wendy Hein, Cody, WY, Wesley (Ellen) Hein, Herrick, SD, and Wynnette Williams, Herrick, SD; two grandsons: Skylur (Tracy) Vomacka and children Justin, Wyatt, and Lily, Herrick, SD, and Chance Vomacka, Rapid City, SD; granddaughters: Jessica (Wayland) Beyer and sons Zandon and Zeelan, Wessington Springs, SD, Taylur (Lee) Davis and children Rekaya, Maddison, and Wayne, Witten, SD, Jenny (Shawn) Shual and son Wyatt, Bassett, NE, and Toni Hein and sons Walker and Tucker, Bassett, NE; two brothers: Merle (Viola) and Gary (Donna); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Walter; parents Alma and Lloyd Royer; sons-in-law Alex Anderson and Norman Vomacka; and brothers Raymond, Charles, Lloyd, and Richard Royer.
