    Cheer & Dance teams add difficulty, dance team places Grand Champion

    Gregory Competitive Cheer and Dance traveled to Bon Homme on Monday, October 6, 2025, and captured first place in dance, with Platte and Wagner following behind. Gregory Dance has been working hard the last couple weeks on adding higher level skills in their pom routine to get ready for state.

    Rotunda town hall held as part of civics and media series

    Representatives from each branch of South Dakota’s state government told an in-person and televised audience September 18, 2025, how they keep each other in check. The “Separation of Powers Town Hall” was held in the rotunda of the Capitol in Pierre.

    South Dakota Commission on gaming issues reminder: private possession of slot machines is illegal

    The South Dakota Commission on Gaming is reminding the public that the private ownership or possession of slot machines is strictly prohibited under South Dakota law. This reminder follows a recent increase in online advertisements offering slot machines for sale by individuals, which resulted in seven machines being seized and ordered to be destroyed following the September 16, 2025, commission meeting.

    Doane Robinson, in his 1925 edition of the Encyclopedia of South Dakota reported that in South Dakota “Cauc asians cannot be licensed to marry Africians, Coreans (Koreans), Malayans or Mongolians. Consanguineous (descended from the same ancestor) marriages are forbidden. Marriages may be dissolved for adultery, extreme cruelty, willful desertion, willful neglect, habitual intemperance, or conviction of felony.”

    Rounding up results

    It’s tough rounding up 1,500 buffalo in the annual Buffalo Roundup, but it’s a whole lot tougher rounding up a two-thirds vote in both chambers of the Legislature to support a new prison. Regardless, we got both done this week, and what a week it was!
