The Gregory and Burke communities have been hard at work fundraising for the family of Beau and JeanAnn Bryan whose two boys, Wesley and Sawyer, are battling the life-threatening disease Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Hats, pajamas, a shaved head, and a shaved beard—these seemingly unrelated items all combined recently at the Gregory School District, resulting in $3,720.73 raised for Wesley and Sawyer Bryan in their fight against their fatal disease.

This was the question that the Domestic Violence Awareness Project advisory group asked ourselves at our annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) planning meeting this year. How can we best show up for survivors right now? How can we assert our unapologetic unity with both survivors and those who serve them, during what feels like a time of significant turbulence and scarcity in domestic violence and related fields? As we dreamed up possible taglines and campaign imagery, our core messages felt crystal clear: Survivors deserve safety. Survivors deserve support. Survivors deserve solidarity.

Golden West Telecommunications Cooperative’s 73rd annual meeting was held at 10 a.m. Sept. 27 at the Community Center in Wall. Members in attendance heard updates about the cooperative and voted to elect candidates for the Board of Directors.

Women experience distinct stages throughout their lives. In literature, these are often described as the maiden, the mother, and the matriarch phases. The transitions between these phases can be challenging times for a woman. Perimenopause is the transition between mother to matriarch.

Community organizations across South Dakota will participate in Stand Up for Housing, a weeklong series of events taking place November 17–21, 2025, designed to raise awareness about homelessness, housing needs, and community-driven solutions across the state.
