It was clear to most Americans that the river was an important channel of commerce as the frontier moved farther west. Each and everyone except the members of Congress saw the significance of a free-flowing river that was free of snags and other obstacles for the economy above St. Louis.

Hamilton wins city council seat

Thirty voters turned out for the municipal election held Tuesday, April 8, 2025, to determine who will fill the Ward I seat on the city council. With this being the lone race on the ballot, only residents in Ward I were eligible to cast a vote.

FFA chapter performance is good news at school board

In the Gorilla Good News portion of the Gregory School District Board of Education regular meeting, Thursday, April 10, 2025, Mollie Andrews, FFA advisor reported that the chapter had recently finished the state FFA convention. Of the 44 students who participated in spring CDEs, 23 qualified for state—five teams and three individuals.

Tools which help show production departures due to drought

Discussing to what extent 2025 might bring of extreme dry conditions has extended beyond just coffee shop talk. We have been holding meetings in area communities to discuss what is coming. Today, we have more tools which show us the departure from normal grass growth, than ever before. Tools which look at historical weather also using information from local or area weather stations.
