Now that South Dakota’s 2024 general election is in the books, it’s time to take a deep breath and step away from politics for a few months to regroup, right? Well, not quite. Attention is already turning to 2026, when South Dakota will elect a new governor as well as hold races for U.S.

This past week was really nerveracking, but super emotional and history making for the lady Spikers. On Tuesday, the girls faced off against Lower Brule at home. They were able to take them in a three set sweep, 25-12, 25-11, and 25-5. This was the momentum the girls needed as they pushed into the final round of the region tournament on Thursday night in Bonesteel.

In the context of a public school district, communication is not merely a function of daily operations— it is the lifeblood that ensures the smooth and efficient running of educational systems, promotes student success, and strengthens the relationship between the school community and its stakeholders. Effective communication within a school district involves a range of interactions between administrators, teachers, students, parents, school boards, and the wider community. When communication is strong and consistent, it creates a shared sense of purpose, supports collaboration, and contributes to a positive learning environment. Conversely, poor communication can lead to misunderstandings, disengagement, and a breakdown in trust, ultimately affecting the educational experience and outcomes.

The South Dakota High School Activities Association has begun to collect data from state tournaments to gauge the economic impact of those events. According to SDHSAA Executive Director Dan Swartos, the study will help the association engage with local chambers of commerce in an effort show the economic worth of the state events and perhaps find a way to get local businesses to lower costs for hotel rooms and food.
