Dear Editor, In response to Senator Tobin’s column on 8/9/23: We can have differing opinions, but the fact that Senator Tobin doesn’t want the people of South Dakota to have a vote on the issue of abortion is a disappointingly undemocratic position by an elected official, while also a clear sign of how weak Senator Tobin thinks her arguments are.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

After General Harney and his men reached Fort Pierre in the late fall of 1855, he and his officers were all dissatis fied with the site. After a thorough inspection of the location, they found the whole establishment in “bad order, bad condition, and bad repair.” The buildings were so dilapidated that they would have to be rebuilt -- everything, in fact, was nearly worthless.

Wendy Umberger appointed CEO for ACIAR

Wendy Umberger, daughter of Duane and Susan Umberger of Burke, was recently appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) by Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator the Honorable Peggy Wong.

The Craguns to perform at Prairie View Gospel Barn

Prairie View Gospel Barn will host The Craguns for an evening of music, laughter, and faith on Sunday, August 20. The doors will open at 5:00 for a hamburger or cheeseburger meal, and the concert will begin at 6:30 p.m.
