Domestic violence thrives in silence. Having an informed conversation about domestic violence requires understanding what it is— that it’s much more than physical abuse—and why ‘just leaving’ isn’t so simple. Survivors must think about their own physical safety, the safety of their children, financial security, finding affordable housing, and a host of other issues. Finally, according to statistics, an individual’s safety risk increases 75% once they end or leave an abusive relationship.
