Small protest camp waits out removal of Keystone XL pipeline

A small protest camp on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation plans to remain in place until the criminal cases against two of its members are finished and all infrastructure related to the Keystone XL Pipeline is removed.

Partnership will train school staff in crisis response

A new partnership between the University of South Dakota and the state Department of Social Services will train more personnel in elementary and secondary schools on crisis prevention and response. The training will help mental health providers in schools to identify children who are in need of services and how to meet those needs.

With anticipated continued drought, flooding likely won’t be an issue this year in the upper Missouri River basin, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other federal officials.

Tiny houses for homeless veterans planned for Sioux Falls

A national organization that builds tiny houses for homeless veterans has plans to bring a project to Sioux Falls. The Veterans Community Project has asked that about two acres of land near Axtell Middle School be rezoned for the project which would include 22 individual homes and eight family homes, along with a community center.
