American Legion essay contest winners announced

Gregory Schools recently participated in the American Legion essay contest. The title for this year’s essay was How Can We Address the Health and Well-being of our Veterans, Military, and Their Families? The winners’ essays went on to compete at the district level.

Sons of American Legion to host meeting

The newly organized Sons of the American Legion will be holding a meeting on Wednesday, April 21, at 7:00 p.m. at the Legion Post Home in Gregory.

When I was in Congress, I had the tremendous honor of being on the conference committee that ironed out the final details of President Trump’s tax cuts. We cut rates for every South Dakotan. We doubled the standard deduction. We returned $2,400 to the pockets of the average South Dakota family, and the economy grew for years as a result.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

When it was time to start classes in the rural school, which was usually at 9:00 AM, the teacher would step out on the front steps of the school and enthusiastically ring that polished vintage teacher’s brass bell. With the wooden handle firmly in hand, that bell was able to produce a sound which could be heard half-a-mile away. We were always told that the argument that “we didn’t hear the bell” was not a valid excuse.
