As we head into the two hottest months of the year, it is a good time for a refresher on heat-related illnesses, from heat rash to heat stroke. These illnesses, however, aren’t relegated to the hottest months of the year. A 65-degree day with no clouds and no wind can quickly cause the same problems.

Everyone has been praying for rain, so when 0.40 inches fell late Saturday afternoon as Ribfest was getting underway, it was hard to complain about it. Other than a little rain, the cool day was perfect for spending hours smoking meat, and the efforts paid off for several teams.
Chris Golden is coming to the Prairie View Gospel Barn

The Prairie View Gospel Barn is pleased to announce that Chris Golden is coming to the Barn on Sunday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for a benefit meal for Lucas Adams Chris Golden is a singer, multiinstrumentalist, producer, traveler, and father. His history in the music industry is epic, spans multiple genres, and is rich in heritage. He has deep roots from his tenure on tour with Alabama, Restless Heart, and the Oak Ridge Boys. And if his name sounds familiar, it could be because he is the son of William Lee Golden of the The Oak Ridge Boys.

SDSU Extension Pesticide Applicator (PAT) Training to be held Feb. 11

SDSU Extension will host a free Private Applicator Training (PAT) on February 11, 2026, from 1:30– 4:30 p.m. CST (12:30–3:30 p.m. MT), with a focus on crops. Participants may attend online or in person at various locations across the state, including the Winner Regional Extension Center, located at 325 S. Monroe, Suite #125, Winner, SD.

South Dakota State announces fall 2025 dean’s list

More than 4,100 students were recognized for the fall 2025 semester at South Dakota State University by being named to the dean’s list. To earn dean’s list distinctions in SDSU’s colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
