Cook joins police department

Gregory’s police department is back to full staff with the addition of Ryan Cook. Originally from Gregory, Cook moved to Yankton with his family after he completed eighth grade, but their ties to the area were never severed; maintaining a farm required frequent trips back.
First Fidelity Bank & Gregory Community Foundation meets challenge

The First Fidelity Bank & Gregory Community Foundation has received a $6,250 matching grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) after raising over $50,000 from generous donors. $6,250 was matched from the Lillibridge Family Fund held at the SDCF.
Highway department items dominate commissioner meeting

The Gregory County Board of Commissioners held a regular meeting at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in the Gregory County Courthouse. Corrections and changes noted Before moving on to new business, the following corrections were made to the January 17 minutes: $22,474.34 is the correct amount abated for the assessment freeze for the elderly and disabled citizens, and bid letting for chip seal, chip seal hauling, and asphalt will be held at 9:30 a.m., March 21, to give the highway superintendent time to determine quantities needed for the 2023 season.
Storm wrestlers finish off a full week of meets

The Burke/Gregory Storm wrestlers had a triangular, a dual, and a tournament on the schedule last week, facing Parkston and Kimball/ White Lake/Platte-Geddes in Parkston on Monday, hosting Bon Homme/Avon at home on Tuesday, and competing in the Redfield Tournament on Saturday.
Local veteran to carry state flag in DC parade

Seventy-six trombones might have led the big parade in the musical “The Music Man,” but Sergeant Ronnie Spain-Messick will be leading the South Dakota contingency in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC, this year.
Gregory Elementary students to participate in honor choir

Students made an audition recording that was selected from hundreds of auditions. They are some of the best fourth through sixthgrade singers from across the state. This is also the most students from Gregory selected into Elementary Honor Choir in a single year. This year, the EFHC will be conducted by Ken Berg, director of the Birmingham Boys Choir. The students will practice during the day on Thursday, and present a concert at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of SDSU at 4:45 p.m.
