From the evidence ava i l abl e, it cannot be properly said that South Dakota has an archeology, or that the land was ever occupied by human beings prior to the coming of the Indian tribes found here by the early white explorers. There are however, several important and very interesting earthworks (mounds) in or on the border of the state, the origin of which is in doubt and the presence of which leads some authorities to conclude that the land was peopled by a prehistoric race.

One neighborhood in Gregory recently became a friendlier place thanks to the addition of a Little Free Library. Francie Johnson, who lives at the corner of Rice Avenue and 6th Street had been wanting a Little Free Library for some time, so her family made that a reality for her as a Christmas present.

Lieutenant Governor Venhuizen, Mr. Speaker, members of the House and Senate, Chief Justice Jensen, Supreme Court justices, constitutional officers, and my fellow South Dakotans: We are gathered here at the convening of another session of the South Dakota Legislature. I’ve thought a lot this past year about that word, convene. Convene means, “To meet formally as a group… for a serious purpose.” We are gathered here for such a purpose: to do the work of the people of South Dakota.
