Progress report on infrastructure project

A construction meeting for Phase I of the city’s infrastructure project was held May 28, 2025. The sanitary sewer has been installed on Felton Avenue between 5th and 7th streets. They are now continuing north on Felton.
City crew to be on look-out for uncapped sewer clean-outs

At Monday evening’s city council meeting, Public Works Superintendent Guhner Kepler discussed an issue with a sewer main that occurred at 9:30 on a Saturday night that took until 1:00 a.m. to resolve because of a tennis shoe in a sewer main. The crew also pulled out some tree roots and blue shop towels.
Boys track team brings home a third place plaque from state meet

The Gregory Gorilla track and field team competed at the 2025 State Track Meet at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, SD, Thursday-Saturday, May 29-31, 2025. Both the girls and the boys had some amazing individual, relay, and team accomplishments.

Svoboda grew up ranching north of Burke after her family moved to the area in 2000. After high school, she attended the School of Mines in Rapid City to study mechanical engineering, but it didn't take her long to figure out that that wasn't what she wanted to do with her life. She came back home, married her husband Bart in 2013, and they started their own operation, in which she is the rancher and he is the farmer.
Ample rains reveal and cause road issues for county

Rex Pfaff and Keith Jons from Bonesteel appeared at the regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, to discuss road conditions. Pfaff has to drive six miles out of his way some days because the more direct route is so bad. Jons has filled holes in the road with his own equipment because one hole was so bad that it put people in the ditch. It gets to the point, he said, that there is no gravel left. Maintenance is a big issue. Jessy Biggins pledged that the issue would be addressed.
