Dear Editor, For many years, I’ve wanted to share my concern about the means that some individuals use who are running for public service. Certainly it is a compliment to them for their intentions to serve for the welfare of the public; however, it’s certainly disconcerting to see that they run their campaigns by making negative remarks and insinuations about the opposing persons. Many others have agreed with me who would like to hear and see what you, the candidates, are going to do in the positive, for the good of the public.

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has received numerous questions regarding its permitting jurisdiction related to the proposed Gregory County Pumped Storage Project. The PUC has determined that under current law, no permit can be required from the PUC for facilities within the boundary of the proposed project.

The City of Gregory announces that RF Buche has voluntarily offered to annex the Gus Stop into the City of Gregory. This annexation will be effective as soon as the state approves.

Concerned citizens were not ready to let the issue of hand counting ballots die as the Gregory County Board of Commissioners met for their regular meeting at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Steve McCance and Juli Peppel were in attendance to further discuss the matter with the board.

The Gregory County Board of Commissioners, at the request of the fire chiefs and the Gregory County emergencymanagementdirector,put theburnbanonfull-time.Thenormal burn ban is only in place when the Grassland Fire Danger Index (GFDI) is in the very high or higher category. The full-time burn ban bans all open burninganywhereinGregoryCounty outside of organized municipalities withafewexceptions.Mostcommunities already ban open burning.

Russel Nelson was in attendance as the Gregory City Council opened their regular meeting at 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2022, to plead for the return of his dog that had been deemed vicious by the police department. Nelson added to the comments that he had already sent by letter to the council, stipulating that he would put up a fence and always keep his dog on a leash if he had her outside the fence, but the council was bound by Ordinance 2017-09.
