Nation’s report card released: SD performing well compared to nation

Results of the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) were released earlier today. While some states experienced double-digit declines in average test scores, South Dakota scores stayed above the national average and experienced less volatility than other states.

State FFA officers visit Gregory County FFA chapter

The Gregory County FFA Chapter welcomed State FFA officers Megan Sanders and Kathryn Rausch to Gregory High School on October 17, 2022. While at the school, Sanders and Rausch met with chapter members and ag students, presenting workshops to agriculture education classes about the agricultural education 3-circle model, FFA emblem, goal setting, and the benefits of agricultural education and being an FFA member.

Second half of property taxes due by October 31

The second half of the 2021 property taxes payable in 2022 are due and payable by October 31, 2022. If you mail your taxes to the Gregory County Treasurer’s Office, there must be an October postmark on the envelope to avoid paying an interest penalty. The Gregory County Treasurer’s Office is now set up to accept credit or debit card payments with a convenience fee charged to the customer.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as the sixteenth president on the 4th of March 1861. Earlier, Congress had passed a bill creating the Dakota Territory near the end of President Buchanan’s presidency. As one of his last official acts as president, Buchanan signed that bill on March 2, 1861.
