The Winner Regional Health and Wellness Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of two scholarships to Jenna Hammerbeck and Emma Jorgensen. Each year, the Foundation requests applications for students within our coverage area who are pursuing a career in healthcare. In previous years, each scholarship was $1,000.00; however, this past year, the Board of Directors agreed to increase that to $2,500.00 each. There is nothing more worthy than investing in tomorrow’s future. The process was very difficult again this year, as we received a number of highly qualified applications. Each applicant is scored on the criteria requested in their application, which includes submitting a narrative of why they are pursuing their chosen career, extra-urricular activities, GPA, letters of support, and overall initiative demonstrated in high school that will assist them with their post-secondary education in a healthcare profession.

It has been roughly 21 months since a vehicle driven by South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg struck and killed pedestrian Joe Boever of Highmore. What follows is an overview of the events that followed, taken from various news sources.

I had the opportunity to meet inspiring representatives of South Dakota and take part in legislative discussions. Visiting international students ages 15 - 17 years old are seeking host families in the area for an academic year or semester. Exchange students from countries such as Spain, Poland, Brazil, Italy, Thailand, France, South Korea, Hungary, Netherlands, Switzerland, Mexico, and Germany become members of their host families while learning their family’s traditions and sharing their own. It’s a great way to learn a new culture and add a little spark to your daily routine while promoting international diplomacy at a local level.

Winner Regional Health is excited and privileged to welcome Dr. Ken Noguchi to the medical team, with an estimated start date of July 25th, 2022. He looks forward to meeting those in the community and prefers to be addressed as “Ken” or “Dr. Ken”.

Over the past two years, America has seen some of the most concerning attacks on freedom in our history. Governments seized previously unimagined power over our day-to-day lives. Churches were forced to close, forsaking freedom of religion. Big tech and government alike attempted to police speech, something that is supposed to be free for all. And though the Supreme Court seems poised to advance the right to life for all people, renewed attacks on that right are only just beginning.
