Commissioners cover short agenda

The regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners was held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 20,2021, at the Gregory County Courthouse. More houses going up in the county Convening as a board of adjustment, the commissioners approved two variance applications.

Hot, dry conditions are fire hazard

Last Thursday, July 22, a baler and a hay bale were destroyed when a bearing failed and caught fire. Members of the Gregory Volunteer Fire Department were able to extinguish the blaze before it resulted in even more damage.

Memorial Day 2021 was a little more emotional for Clarence Shoemaker than most other years, and it was all because a stranger decided to take a walk through a cemetery one day. Sheila Day was fulfilling a request from “Find A Grave” to take photos at Highland Cemetery by Adams, NE.

Legion baseball regional tournament to begin Thursday in Gregory

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 22-24, are the days to find some great baseball action in Gregory as the town hosts the American Legion regional baseball tournament. Gregory will face off against Martin in the first game of the tournament on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

Science of flight and bubble festival were a hit

Gregory County 4-H held a Science of Flight workshop that was put on by the South Dakota Discovery Center on July 8th where the youth learned about how planes and jets are able to fly. They learned about the science behind thrust, drag, lift and weight and how these four forces of flight can make things fly. Next, the SD Discovery Center led a workshop called “Bubble Festival” where the youth learned about what a bubble is made of and how a bubble is formed. The youth used different tools to create bubbles of all sizes. They learned how to create big bubbles, tiny bubbles and even how to put a bubble inside of another bubble.

New USDA competition driver applauded by cattle group

The largest U.S. producer-only cattle trade association, R-CALF USA, applauded the recent announcement by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to use his fiscal authorities to drive efforts to restore competition in livestock markets.
