Dear editor, Just wanted to acknowledge the article in the paper regarding the Buche Store donating food to the Indian population in South Dakota. I used to work at Buches back in the 1950’S when I was in high school and felt very proud that I did so. I remember the grandfather, and probably this young man’s father who would come to visit the store periodically to see how things were going. They would be very proud of the young Buche gentleman who runs Buches now. What a wonderful gesture of humanity and kindness he displayed. Because of the danger from sandbars and snags, the captain and crew of the “Evening Star,” amid many doubts and uncertainties, held to their course, passing Bon Homme, Santee Sioux Agency, Ponca Agency, and Yankton Sioux Agency, and finally arriving at Fort Randall. They landed some freight and were visited by those living at the fort.
