The two states of Dakota were once part of the vast Dakotaland which extended from the Mississippi to the Missouri River. They shared with Minnesota in the history of exploration and early settlement. For centuries it had been a land of life – plant, animal, and human. Eventually, the first white explorers (fur trappers and mountain men) found it. The fur companies gathered immense wealth from its natural resources.

Voita announces candidacy for State Senate in District 21

Mykala Voita recently announced her candidacy for State Senate in District 21. Encompassed within District 21 are the hardy people within the counties of Tripp, Gregory, Charles Mix, Aurora, and Douglas counties. Mykala is a Gregory County born and raised resident, whose family has deep roots planted in the county six generations deep. Mykala resides outside of Bonesteel, SD with her husband, Justice, and two children: Ember & Asher.

USDA trade policies hurt ranchers

Commentary by Bill Bullard, CEO, R-CALF USA The U.S. Senate just passed a resolution of disapproval to stop the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) from implementing a trade policy the agency estimated would injure American ranchers by up to $24 million annually. But history tells us the USDA is notorious for grossly understating the economic injuries its trade policies are causing American ranchers.

Marts brothers awarded Quilts of Valor last Sunday

On Sunday, March 31, brothers Jerry and Guy Marts were each awarded a Quilt of Honor in a ceremony at the Berean Church in Gregory. Quilts of Valor are awarded to service members or veterans who have been touched by war as a way to thank them for their service and sacrifice to our nation.

Addy Nelson receives honors as part of national championship bowling team

Angel and Bryan Nelson, owners of Gregory Lanes, say their daughter Addy started bowling at age three, but she claims they used bowling as a free babysitter. Regardless of how she got started, Addy has continued to improve over the years and honed her skills, and is now a member of a national champion bowling team.
