Two Gregory AAU wrestlers bring home championships

The Gregory Youth Wrestling Club returned from the state tournament held in Rapid City, SD, on March 15-17, 2024, with 12 place finishers, two of which brought home a state championship. This is the largest group Gregory has taken to the state tournament in recent history.

Library program draws attention to missing and murdered indigenous persons

Missing and murdered indigenous persons have garnered more attention in recent years after cases have gone sometimes decades with no answers. Library Director Tara Engel is doing her part to help with this. She has qualified for a grant through the South Dakota Humanities Council to bring in speakers to the Gregory Public Library for at least two sessions to help create more awareness about the issue.

Boys keep fans on the edge of their seats at state tournament, finish 6th

The Gregory Gorillas opened the State B basketball tournament on Thursday, March 14, at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen with a first round matchup against three time defending State Champion DeSmet. The Gorillas flexed their defensive muscles in the first quarter, holding the Bulldogs to just three points while leading 9-3 after one quarter.

FFA students participate in practice event in Bridgewater/Emery

Gregory County FFA started their spring season by competing in their first Career Development Contest (CDE) in Bridgewater/ Emery on March 11. These events challenge members to devleop critical thinking skills and effective decision-making skills, foster teamwork, and promote communication while recognizing the value of ethical competition and individual achievement.

Looking back on legislative session

Back in December, when I gave my annual Budget Address to the state legislature, I told them that we had to remember our core function as the state governments. I told them that we needed to prioritize people, not projects. Our primary responsibility is to serve the people of the great state of South Dakota. And now, as we have wrapped up the 2024 legislative session, I am proud to say that we have done just that.
