Planning commission overturns building permit on appeal

Ryan Cook was present at the Gregory County Planning Commission’s meeting on Tuesday, March 12, to appeal his building permit denial to erect a barn on 40 acres in an ag district. Commission member Sonny Plugge pointed out that nowhere in the county ordinances does it state that a house must be built on the parcel first.

Gregory Jr. High students to perform the play After Happily Ever After

Join the junior high play cast for two nights Friday and Saturday at the Dixon Town Hall Theater. What happens after the oh-sobrave prince slays the dragon, swash-buckles his way into the castle, saves the damsel-in-distress, and lives happily ever after? Prince Charming (Joseph Stevicks) gets kidnapped! With the kingdom in panic, the dimwitted Squire Squdge (George Timanus) is determined to find Prince Charming to prove his knightliness to the kingdom.

A healthy plate

Many people might remember the food pyramid. It was created by the USDA in 1992 to give a visual explanation of what was considered at the time to be a healthy diet. This common image that is likely remembered frequenting the back of a cereal box was the model of food consumption for a short 19 years. It was replaced in 2005 by a staircase- looking model, then replaced again in 2011 by USDA’s MyPlate, which you might recognize as a plate divided into sections for fruits, veggies, proteins and grains with a side circle of healthy fats.

Avery Zeisler named proficiency finalist

Gregory County FFA Member Avery Zeisler was announced as a finalist for the Ag Communications proficiency award this past week. This is the second time a Gregory County FFA member has been selected as a proficiency finalist.

Missouri Valley Mutual Insurance Company of Burke, SD will hold their 110th Annual Policyholders Meeting on March 19, 2024, at 1:15 PM at the Civic Center in Burke.
