Farmers market season is just around the corner. The Burke Area Farmers Market will kick off the year with their first market on Thursday, July 7th, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Burke City Park. In addition to shopping with vendors, there will be a meal for purchase by Chubby’s food truck, a kids’ coloring contest, and live music from Jerry Squared.

The following students graduated after the spring 2022 semester at South Dakota State University. More than 1,500 students completed all requirements for a degree and/or certificate program and those requirements have been verified by the appropriate college.

Northeast Community College in Norfolk, NE, celebrated the success of its graduates this spring. Spring 2022 candidates and the graduates who completed their studies in summer and fall 2021 included Jacob Smith of Gregory, SD, who graduated with an associate of arts degree..

The Dakota Territory in the 1880s stood out for its love for civic virtue, and historians recount how few holidays rated higher than Independence Day to the settlers. Those same historians note that this ingrained love for America explains why so many South Dakotans served in the World Wars, and why we as a state revere our veterans.
