What does a groundhog have to do with the weather?

Groundhog Day, the celebrated day when a groundhog purportedly emerges from his winter slumbers to investigate whether or not he has a shadow in order to predict the onset of spring, was last week. It’s a strange tradition, looking to a furry burrowing mammal to forecast the weather, but the roots of this observance go back a very long way.

Gregory Elementary students to participate in honor choir

Nine Gregory fourth - sixth grade students were chosen to sing in the Elementary Festival Honor Choir held in Brookings, SD on Thursday, February, 10, 2022. Gregory students selected are: George Timanus, David Biggins, Jaelyn Birkeland, Eliana Fiebelkorn, Jerilee, Hanson, Hadley Braun, Gracelyn Lanz, Otto Reber, and Elizabeth Wonnenberg.

2021 city tax revenues see significant increase over 2020

The regular meeting of the Gregory City Council was held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, February 7, 2022, at City Hall. Hamilton’s launch almost complete Former City Administrator/Finance Officer Al Cerny was present to ask the council to extend the time given to help train his replacement, Alex Hamilton.

Storm ties for first; Hansen named outstanding wrestler

The Burke/Gregory Storm wrestlers represented South Dakota well at the Ainsworth Invitational Tournament on Saturday, January 29, finishing in a tie for first place with Valentine. With 190.5 points each, both teams were well ahead of third place Central City at 141 points and Sidney, which came in fourth with 121 points. Winside rounded out the top five with 87.5 points.

Gorillas down Avon and Jones Co.

The Gregory Gorillas defeated the Avon Pirates on Thursday evening by a score of 52-28. The Gorillas were in control after getting out to a big 40-14 halftime lead.
