Over 40 people were in attendance Wednesday evening, August 10, at the Burke Community Center as Clarence Shoemaker gave a presentation on the 1902 roundup at the Gregory Historical Society’s monthly meeting.

Teener players chosen for all-star game in Humboldt

Two players from the Gregory County Teeners baseball team were chosen to participate in the SD VFW Baseball 16U Showcase and Wood Bat All-Star Game in Humboldt, SD, on Saturday, August 13. Rylan Peck and Gannon Thomas were nominated by region coaches for the honor.

Gregory Legion Post 6 finishes third in state baseball tournament

Last Monday’s win against Winner in the 2022 South Dakota American Legion State Class B Sr. Baseball Tournament put Gregory Legion Post 6 in the top three of the state and in a matchup against Vermillion on Tuesday, August 2, in a playoff for the championship game. Vermillion got off to an early lead on the brutally hot day, in which game times were moved back several hours to try to beat the heat, but Gregory couldn’t recover in a 12-5 loss.

“Hey you, listen up! Listen here, pay attention, focus”. From an early age, we are told to listen. How we are taught to listen likely comes from the adults we are surrounded by. Children observe those around them, and communication is modeled and often then replicated. As we begin to put the brakes on summer and many of us shift into the school season schedule, I invite you to think about how you listen. If you have younger children, you are teaching them how to listen as well.

Dixon Town Hall gets face lift

The Dixon Town Hall is in the middle of a building repair and face lift. Building improvements include finishing siding on the west side, removal of the old siding, re-sheeting and insulating the south wall, adding new windows, and installing new vinyl siding. To assist with repairs, the Gregory Community Foundation is providing a grant for $1,000 to help cover the estimated $10,000 repair costs.

Gregory County 4-H holds “All About Space” Cloverbud Workshop

Gregory County 4-H held a Cloverbud workshop where the youth learned all about space. This workshop was held at the Burke Civic Center on Wednesday, August 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The youth watched an educational video about the planets and the stars, then made space lanterns with paper and decorated them with glow-in-the-dark paint.
