The organization of this first legislative body was subordinated to a single interest -- the location of the capital at Yankton. By previous arrangement, powerful positions were assigned to certain individuals in return for their support for Yankton.

The Ball Brothers are returning to the Prairie View Gospel Barn

The Ball Brothers are returning to town for another concert at the Prairie View Gospel Barn on Thursday, September 9, at 7:00 p.m. The Ball Brothers are two brothers, Andrew and Daniel Ball, brother-in-law Chad McCloskey, and newcomer Rhett Roberts, who travel throughout the world singing their distinctive brand of Christian music.

Gregory Police Department welcomes new officer

Amber Kelly is the newest addition to the Gregory Police Department. A 2006 Gregory High School graduate, Kelly says that she has wanted to be in law enforcement since she was a kid. Her career since graduating has been in security and corrections work. “I couldn’t think of a better position than the one I’m in now to go ahead and do that,” she said of becoming a police officer.

Night at the Derby fundraiser event is well attended

The sixth annual fundraiser event for the Avera Area Foundation was held at the Gregory Memorial Auditorium on Saturday, August 28, 2021. The fundraiser is held annually to entice individuals through scholarships to return to the Avera Gregory facilities with their talent for future position within the system. The night was full of food, games, and plenty of items to bid on in the live and silent auctions.

“Marathon Man” Juracek plans three marathons in three months

Gregory’s own Marathon Man, Wade Juracek, is pushing his body to its limits this fall with three marathons on his schedule. He had already planned on running the Sioux Falls Marathon the last weekend of August, just because, and the Mid-City Marathon in Rochester, MN, two weeks later because he wanted to visit the city once without having surgery, when he got a call to run the Boston Marathon in October.

BID looks to the future in the second quarter

The Business and Industrial Development Group’s (BID) second quarter focus was on updating their strategic plan and providing financial help to the local business community through the USDA Revolving Loan Fund and original revolving loan fund.
