4-H Lego workshops held

Gregory County 4-H hosted two LEGO workshops this last week. The children enjoyed competing in various building challenges, working on team building skills, and getting to express themselves with free building time. They also got to learn more about one another! When asked what they learned throughout the workshop, the youth answered, “communication, teamwork, patience and motor skills.” The youth left the workshop asking for more time to build, more fun challenges and for more LEGO workshops in the future.

Gregory Community Foundation supports Horizons efforts at Park Performance Center

Gregory Horizons Community Development Corporation recently received a $1,000 grant from the Gregory Community Foundation to supplement fundraising efforts to erect a shed alongside the Park Performance Center (outdoor amphitheater) at the north end of the city park near the swimming pool. Last year, a community minded individual donated money to cover the concrete pad that the building will be built on. The total cost of materials for the proposed shed is $4,460.69 plus the cost of a window, and local contractors have agreed to donate their expertise, labor, and tools to make the project a reality. This 120 square foot building will serve a variety of purposes including storing chairs for events at the center, serving as a concessions stand, use as a dressing room, and for general storage needs such as speakers and other equipment. Adding the shed will increase opportunities for events to be hosted in the park’s amphitheater. The chairs stored in the shed will be available for rent at events for a small fee with the proceeds used for maintenance of the center. Horizons needs your help – if you’re interested in donating to this project, please contact Dr. Marvin or Julie Braun, Richard or Bev Rubel, Ashely Lozano, Gregg Drees, or Hank Wonnenberg.

Fund is set up for new swimming pool

The Gregory City Pool is in need of a new structure and pump system. The twin pools have been an icon and asset in Gregory since the early 1940’s providing all ages an opportunity for health, wellness, safety, swimming lessons, competitions, socialization, and jobs. The pools have exceeded their life span of providing many years of fun summer days and now the community has the opportunity to enhance and expand the complex to offer a closer bathroom complex for the performance center, 4-H building, and bicycling events.
