A CANADIAN PERSPECTIVE

Dear Editor, I start by correcting the last byline article: The King’s E.O. would have jailed librarians who didn’t remove all banned DEI books from the shelves, but the ND Gov. vetoed this. This is about the obsession with DEI, the browning of America, and the movement towards government by only rich white males.

Is Therapy Selfish?

One of the critiques I’ve heard about therapy, is that it often results in selfishness. People start therapy, identify all of their problems, and then only want to focus on what’s good for them; which leads to selfishness. There may actually be a thread of truth to some of that, but like most things, it’s not the full story. Today, I’d like to explore where this concept comes from and also provide a little bit of additional truth to what therapy is really like and what someone might gain from this experience.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The first South Dakota newspaper that was digitized containing a story recognizing those men who had served their country as a soldier was The Mitchell Capital in 1886. Seven different issues of that paper contained stories commemorating their military service. No other South Dakota paper had reported on the sacrifices made by these men for our freedoms today.

Sarah Svoboda of Burke, SD, has launched her new business, Resilient Ranch Coach

Svoboda grew up ranching north of Burke after her family moved to the area in 2000. After high school, she attended the School of Mines in Rapid City to study mechanical engineering, but it didn't take her long to figure out that that wasn't what she wanted to do with her life. She came back home, married her husband Bart in 2013, and they started their own operation, in which she is the rancher and he is the farmer.

Ample rains reveal and cause road issues for county

Rex Pfaff and Keith Jons from Bonesteel appeared at the regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, to discuss road conditions. Pfaff has to drive six miles out of his way some days because the more direct route is so bad. Jons has filled holes in the road with his own equipment because one hole was so bad that it put people in the ditch. It gets to the point, he said, that there is no gravel left. Maintenance is a big issue. Jessy Biggins pledged that the issue would be addressed.

Gregory Public Library looking for artists to paint the town

Gregory Public Library is hosting a fundraiser in collaboration with the local Community Arts Council and Dixon Town Hall, and we need you. The library’s Summer Reading theme is “Color Our World,” and what better way to do that than to add some color to the community and hopefully spark a new movement of public art.
