Traditions and dreams are two powerful forces for making things happen. When the two forces come together, something very special results. This is the case for Dave Engelmeyer, who not only fulfilled his dream of working on a float for the Rose Parade but also got to be part of the team that won the Showmanship Award for the most outstanding display of showmanship and entertainment.

The regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, January 3, began with the election of chair and vice chair. Jessy Biggins and Byrain Boes will retain those titles.

Sometimes I swear we sound like a broken record, and on some issues that broken record has been singing for two decades now. There’s something to be said about being persistent, uncompromising, unwavering, and willing to continue to tackle the fight at hand. This year we’ve had some setbacks and standstills as we do each year, but in 2023 we’ve had several key wins, and important progress has been made across all three branches of government that will lead to more successes for our members in 2024.

The Gorillas defeated the North Central Knights on December 19, 2023, by a score of 62-39. The Knights got off to a fast start and held a 14-5 lead before the Gorillas got their own offense started.

Four years ago, the annual Name the Snowplow Contest was created by the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) to engage people across the state in winter driving safety awareness and preparedness.
